FED:Flight Safety Foundation to brief African mining body

Two months after a plane crash killed the entire board of Western Australian miner
Sundance Resources .. the Flight Safety Foundation will brief a key African mining body
on an Australian initiative to boost Africa's patchy aviation safety record.

Foundation Asia-Pacific regional director PAUL FOX says the proposed international
aviation safety standard for the resources sector has the longterm potential to lift aviation
safety right across Africa.

That standard specifies minimum pilot competencies .. aircraft equipment and maintenance
levels and has already been formally endorsed by the Minerals Council of Australia.

Mr FOX will brief the South African Chamber of Mines occupational health and safety
policy committee in Johannesburg tomorrow (Thursday).





In the Sundance tragedy .. a chartered Spanish-built CASA 212 aircraft crashed in jungle
in the Republic of Congo on June 19 killing all 11 on board.
