WA:Anger after British backpackers get off scot-free

The victim of an alleged assault by two British backpackers has hit out at Australianauthorities after his attackers avoided court.

Brothers SIMON JOHNSON, aged 24, and 23-year-old PHILIP JOHNSON, of Manchester, weredue to face the West Australian magistrate's court yesterday.

They're charged with grievous bodily harm in relation to an assault on 28-year-oldhotel employee PAUL DE SOUZA in Broome last September.

The brothers failed to appear because they had already skipped the country after theirpassports were mistakenly returned to them.
